Scenic Store Uses DemandMade to Enable Mass Customization

Specialty Poster & Print Retailer Increases Conversion Rates By Over 100%

HERMITAGE, PA. — HERMITAGE, PA, July 17, 2006 – DemandMade™, provider of mass customization solutions, today announced that The Scenic Store (www.scenicstore.com), a publisher and retailer of decorative posters and prints, has increased conversion rates by over 100% for its customized products by employing DemandMade’s suite of Web applications to configure product attribute combinations and communicate with the remote printing facility who produces each product on demand.

Founded in 2004, The Scenic Store is a publisher and retailer of print collections devoted to the natural landscape including US National Parks and the Magazine Prints Collection which consists of images direct from the pages of specialty magazines including Arizona Highways and Vermont Life. Each print is available in a number of styles and framing options.

Using DemandMade’s Custom Manager application, The Scenic Store is now able to create complex attribute combinations and present 12 different variations of each product on a single sell page including various print styles and framing previews. The result has been an increase in conversion rates.

“Our customers have really responded to this way of presenting product. Since we’ve incorporated the DemandMade platform into our order process, we’ve seen our conversion rates increase by over 100%,” said Shawn Dougherty, General Manager. “We’re now able to establish rule sets for our custom products which are then reflected dynamically on our sell page and extend to the factory where these prints are produced on demand."

Orders are passed to a third-party manufacturing facility using DemandMade’s Gateway application. Designed specifically for retailers to communicate in real-time with factories who produce made-to-order products, Gateway allows The Scenic Store to remotely manage the production and fulfillment process including real-time order status, aging reports, changes, cancellations, and more.

“Because the manufacturer is also using DemandMade to produce and fulfill our orders, we can be sure that the products they produce match what our customers saw on the screen,” said Dougherty. “We’re also able to remotely monitor the manufacturing and fulfillment process to meet our customer’s expectations.”
