DemandMade, Inc. was launched in 2005 by eBusiness veterans Scott Killian and Tim Brule, the same award-winning team who founded FanBuzz, Inc in 1996. FanBuzz helped pioneer e-commerce outsourcing when they developed and operated online stores for over 100 of the biggest sports, media and entertainment brands in the world including the National Hockey League, Disney, Elvis Presley Enterprises, ESPN, Peanuts, The 2002 Olympic Games and many others. Killian and Brule also pioneered one of the first online applications of mass customization with CustomFan™, a highly successful retail program which allowed consumers to interact with garment styles, licensed trademarks and colors to “create” their own apparel from a collection of over 500,000 pre-approved design combinations. FanBuzz was sucessfully sold in 2002 to ShopNBC (NASDAQ: VVTV), the nation’s third largest television shopping network.
Scott Killian — President & CEO
Scott Killian has been advising and operating successful e-commerce companies for 10 years — most notably as Chairman & CEO of FanBuzz, a leading e-commerce outsourcing and fulfillment company. Killian co-founded FanBuzz in 1996 and later recruited a Board of Directors which included prominent retail veterans and Directors for such companies as Toys “R” Us (NYSE: TOY), Staples (NYSE: SPLS) and The Limited Brands (NYSE:LTD). In 2000, Killian raised the first of two private equity rounds for the company totaling $10 million. FanBuzz was recognized in 2001 by Deloitte & Touche with an award for achieving 2,437% growth from 1997 to 2000, making it the third fastest growing company in the state of Minnesota during this period.
Killian was an early advocate for the use of mass customization to better understand consumer preferences, reduce inventory, improve assortment flexibility, and enhance the overall brand experience for consumer products. His early efforts resulted in the launch of CustomFan™ in 1999 which produced successful retail programs using mass customization for such brands as Coca-Cola, the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics, Peanuts, The National Hockey League and over 100 colleges and universities.
In 2003, Killian founded River Curve Advisors where he performed advisory services to multi-channel retailers. His insights have been featured in such national publications as USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and CBS Marketwatch. Killian is a graduate of Bethany College, Mankato, MN and a recipient of the City Business “40 Under 40” award.
Tim Brule — Chief Operating Officer
Tim Brule is a versatile and creative problem solver with 10 years of technical and operational experience in e-commerce, fulfillment and flow-based manufacturing processes. He co-founded FanBuzz in 1996 where he held a variety of positions including Chief Technology Officer, VP of Merchandising and Secretary to the Board of Directors. As CTO he orchestrated the development of the company’s core e-commerce, order processing and inventory open-to-buy platforms. He also designed and lead the development of a sophisticated flow-based production platform to support CustomFan™, the company’s mass customized garment embellishment process. As VP of Merchandising, he restructured the company’s search engine optimization (SEO) program, oversaw and right-sized the P&L for catalog marketing programs and developed new inventory management processes to better achieve the company’s financial goals.
Since 1995, Brule has also acted as publisher of the leading online community for College Hockey (USCHO.com). USCHO is an award winning online publication that has received accolades from The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Yahoo's “Best of the Web” and PC Magazine. Brule successfully cracked the NCAA men's hockey tournament selection process and has correctly predicted the tournament field for 9 straight years. As a direct result, the NCAA now calls the process the PairWise Rankings — effectively making it the BCS of college hockey. Brule has also been a voter for the prestigious Hobey Baker award (awarded each year to the most outstanding collegiate hockey player) and the Hockey Humanitarian award.
Brule has a BS and MS from the University of Minnesota in Applied Mathematics.
